Jason Fox, The Studio of Dr. Mabuse

Jason Fox has been exhibiting his work both domestically and internationally for almost two decades. His paintings and sculptures daub both low and high culture with the same brush, often rubbing disparate elements up against each other -- classical Greek proportion with heavy metal album cover art, high American Modernism with comic book gore.

For his first artist's book, The Studio of Dr. Mabuse, Jason continues his mythmaking and fantasy by spinning a tale of a solitary artist through a series of enigmatic images. Evocative, elusive and mysterious, the gouaches present an astral world in which the character is creatively active and more often passive. Jason made the Dr. Mabuse series of gouaches expressly for this artist's book.

The Studio of Dr. Mabuse measures 8 x 7 inches, is hardcover, contains 48 pages, and retails for $30.
